<<strong>>!!KOBASHI MELISSA (Lemon Balm) Hydrolat
Latin Name:Melissa officinalis
Source:Steam distilled in-house from organically grown flowering herb using traditional copper alembic stills. Distilled solely to produce the hydrolat, not as a by-product of essential oil extraction.
Colour:Clear to pale yellow
Origin: Devon, England
Aroma: Lemon-like with a fresh grass/earthy note, capturing the essence of the fresh herb.
Qualities: Hydrolats are usually the by-product of essential oil distillation, but they are therapeutically valuable in their own right, containing the plant’s water-soluble properties. Our Melissa hydrolat is distilled solely for its own production, preserving the delicate aroma and beneficial compounds of the herb. It is soothing and uplifting to both mind and body. Gerard, the famous herbalist, states that Melissa “maketh the heart merry and joyful and strengthen the vital spirits.” Melissa is thought to be particularly helpful during times of anxiety or shock, an excellent nerve tonic and supportive for oily or allergy-prone skin. Melissa may also aid in regulating the female cycle. Known as bee balm, it is a favourite of bees. Paracelsus called it 'The Elixir of Life.' Hydrolats do not need to be diluted and can be applied directly to the skin. They may be added to baths, shampoos, or moisturisers, serving as an excellent tonic and skin toner, especially for oily skin. Use to refresh your face, mist before applying moisturising cream, or enjoy as a natural perfume. Melissa hydrolat has also been used in the culinary arts (e.g., cakes), and in steam irons to refresh clothes.
