| As of October 30, 2000 we have found excellent Musk Rose cold extraction absolute from Zambia, which is Organically grown. No insecticides, fungicides or pesticides are applied during the production cycle. Nutrients are applied using cattle manure and composted biomass from the steam plant and extractor. For more information. As of October 15th we have been out of Jasmine Absolute because all sample have had to much phthalates and Ethanol. We are looking for a pure source> History : Alert! This is information is from September 2000: We have access to the majority of suppliers in the world. We are out of Pure Rose Absolute! Simple put Scott found Malathion ( a pesticide) and two phthalates (used to soften plastics) in the best of the samples analyzed, thus rejected them. Scott Ballard at Kobashi is someone who knows what he is talking about regarding Essential Oils. He has an extensive knowledge of the oils and their chemical components. Scott has placed ethics over money. Kobashi has not just shifted oils, at times is out of oil, even though having access to the majority of suppliers on the planet. In the case of the Rose, after telling another supplier of the contaminants the supplier requested 10kgs. This would have given Kobashi a substantial profit. Sincerely, Lynda Ballard We are out of Pure Rose Absolute! Reason: Last sample from a good source we found .09 percent (4.5ppm with a standard deviation of 30%, due to one point graphing of 100ppm standard: simple terms<10ppm) of Malathion ( a pesticide) and .04 percent of two different phthalates (plasticizers from plastics) and ~5% Ethanol. (used to extract the oil from the concrete of Rose, but should be much lower if properly vacuum extracted.) This is one of the best smelling roses I've smelled in 5 years. We are still searching for the quality we want. When I told this to a supplier of essential oils he said, "Date: Mon, 21 Aug 2000 16:44:41+0100 To: info@kobashi.com The sad and unholy truth is the majority of the suppliers of essential oils think it's okay to sell an oil like this or worse. There's only a few companies in the world who even look at oils at parts per million (.09 is approximately <10ppm in this case: percentages in gc and gc-ms data are not quantitative ppm. A standard of a given chemical at a given ppm must be run. You start with the area of the peak from the original gc-ms of the Rose oil , in this case the area of the peak of Malathion is 1421304. To find X (the ppm of Malathion in the Rose Oil you must multiply 1421304 times the known standard of Malathion injected into the gc-ms alone, in this case 100ppm, which gives you 142130400. Then divide 142130400 by the area of the peak of the standard, in this case 33438823 , which =4.25ppm). The more standard ppm solutions of Malathion run the more accurate the ppm found in the Rose oil will be. Such as Running 5ppm, 10ppm, 50ppm, 100ppm,. With more points on the graph your analysis will be all that more accurate. In this case with only one point on the graph we can say there will be an approximate 30% plus or minus deviation from 4.25ppm. So the amount of Malathion in the Rose Oil, which we rejected will fall between 3.2 to 5.5. But to be safe on this Secondary-preliminary test, we can say there is <10ppm of Malathion in this Oil. |
Many suppliers think I'm mad to test to this level. But this is what I think is best and right to find toxins I don't like in an oil, so they don't get to you.
The fact is 98% of the suppliers of essential oils don't test their oils at all. The ones that do do a cheap Gc that sees very little. Others do a Gc-ms of only the major chemicals in the oil. Many of the Gc-s and Gc-ms's performed are proformed with limited libraries and knowledge. Most who perform GC-MS rely on the quality match of the library and do not actually look at the individual Ion patterns of each chemical. Even fewer cross reference the data with their own standards library run on the same column and method. The excuse is time and money and knowledge. What I am saying is a starting point for some. What I am saying is once you have the knowledge and money you must make the time to sell what you say you are selling. The more you know, the more strict the criteria gets. So many people hide behind their Blinkers, wipe their soul away, trample down the road and use those on their way. Another problem is down and out greed. Last month I rejected a sample Of Bergamot with 70% Limonene. A blatant >30% adulteration This is why I seldom purchase from the same person and test every essential oil with GC-MS. I refuse to sell any oil that has anything wrong with it , even though I will loose money when I'm without an oil to sell. I could have made very good money if I supplied the 10kgs of Rose absolute mentioned earlier. I know many will have no problem with selling oil like that and it will eventually end up on the market anyway, by some one who doesn't care as much as I do or someone who doesn't have the facilities to test properly. Someone told me I should buy and sell the 10kgs and give the money to a proper cause, but I do not believe the ends justify the mean. What is it to gain money if it means selling my soul. I believe it is wrong to sell anything that I would not use myself. Thank you, Scott Ballard PS My criteria is very strict. The more I know the more devout I must be. This is my personal road of impeccability. I believe in all the Great Gurus, such as referred to in Paramahansa Yogananda autobiography, such as Jesus; also of the present and future people who aspire to commune with God. I will not go hungry, God will provide, even if its spirit. To all those that sell by deception, may the knowledge of an ever providing spirit, a endless universe without lack come into your heart and soul and free you from your fear. |
